Aboriginal and Treaty Rights Information System
The Aboriginal and Treaty Rights Information System (ATRIS) is a web-based, geographic information system that locates and describes Indigenous nations, collectives, communities, and organizations. It displays information pertaining to their potential or established Aboriginal or treaty rights, and is key in supporting the Government of Canada's Section 35 Duty to Consult responsibilities. The Duty to Consult arises when the Crown considers conduct that might adversely impact potential or established Aboriginal or Treaty rights.

About ATRIS
ATRIS is a web-based information system that locates Indigenous collectives on an interactive map, and displays information pertaining to their potential or established Aboriginal or treaty rights. The system does not provide a defined list of who must be consulted, nor the depth of consultation.
ATRIS enables users to easily access data from multiple sources via a single interactive and customizable platform. It is key in supporting Indigenous consultations by federal departments and other entities.
The system is regularly updated to include information derived from consultations with Indigenous communities, court decisions, and other sources.
Collaboration with Indigenous groups on co-developing system content is a priority to support Indigenous data sovereignty and to contribute to Indigenous self-determination. Indigenous partners can contact us at: indigenous.consultations.autochtones@rcaanc-cirnac.gc.ca for more information on developing or updating ATRIS content.
ATRIS is part of the Government of Canada's Open Government initiative.
