The Territorial Development Fund supports small capacity-building projects that foster social and political growth in the Northwest Territories.

About the fund
The Territorial Development Fund supports projects and programs that help residents to better engage in the Northwest Territories’ political and social growth. This funding is available to address a broad range of issues.
Proposals should focus on 1 or more ways your project:
- expands knowledge of Northern issues
- increases understanding of the roles and responsibilities within organizations as they relate to the political and social development of the territory
- fosters political knowledge and skills
- increases community participation in politics
- improves partnerships
- supports cultural events
- promotes effective community governance
- aligns with regional, departmental and government priorities
Examples of activities that might qualify include:
- youth programs
- capacity-building programs
- Truth and Reconciliation Calls to action
- United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Persons articles
- gender-based analysis
Expenses that are not eligible for funding include:
- core funding activities (audits, utilities and salaries)
- travel to regional assemblies
- hospitality for meetings/workshops
- capital costs (infrastructure)

Who can apply
This funding is available to entities interested in the political and social development of the Northwest Territories. This includes public and private organizations and groups, as well as other levels of government (excluding other federal departments).

Deadlines
Proposals are due every year on May 31. We may keep proposals that we are not able to fund right away for future consideration, or if more funding becomes available. We may also share proposals with other federal programs to help maximize funding opportunities.
